Bazil Lauryssen will be appointed to the position of Chief Executive Officer with day to day responsibility for the running of the business, reporting to the Executive Chairman.
Adelaide McKelvey remains Managing Director of the company's Rest of Africa business outside of South Africa with James Scott as Chief Financial Officer, both reporting to the CEO.
The changes take place with immediate effect.
Barry Sayer, doyen of Out of Home media (OOH) and president of FEPE international (the Federation European Publicite Exterieur) has been promoted from his previous position as CEO, which he took up upon returning United Kingdom to South Africa. This was after a four year sojourn in the UK, where he served as CEO of Clear Channel Outdoor United Kingdom and as Regional President for the United Kingdom, Ireland and the Middle East of Clear Channel Inc., the world's largest outdoor advertising company. Whilst in the United Kingdom he also served as a Director of Postar, the outdoor research company, and as a Council Member of the Outdoor Advertising Association of the UK. Outside of the advertising industry, he served as a board director of the City of Westminster, Heart of London Business Alliance. Sayer was unanimously elected as President at the 52nd annual General Assembly of FEPE International in May 2011 in Madrid.
Lauryssen has been promoted from Managing Director, a position that he has held since the company's inception. Lauryssen, a certified Charted Accountant in South Africa, has steered the Continental Outdoor Media brand with distinction and grown it into the rest of Africa during his tenure as MD, having worked for the company's predecessor companies since 1993.
Bazil Lauryssen started as a Financial Director at Primesite Outdoor Advertising and worked his way up to General Manager, prior to the company's consolidation into Primedia. CorpCom's then CEO, Sayer, recruited Lauryssen to be the Operations Director of its subsidiary company, Rent-A-Sign, which was at that time the biggest company in its sector. Within 18 months, Lauryssen restructured the business and played a critical role in CorpCom's listing on the JSE. In September 2000, he was appointed Managing Director of the South African operation and by 2001 he was appointed as a main Board Director. After the company was sold to a joint venture partnership between Clear Channel Communications Inc. and INM SA, Lauryssen ran the South Africa business interests, constituting 75% of the Group's turnover and profits. In 2006, he became Managing Director of INM Outdoor, overseeing operations in 14 African countries.
Adelaide McKelvey, previously Sales & Marketing Director at Continental Outdoor Media since 2005, was appointed as Managing Director Rest of Africa in October 2012. Continental Outdoor Media now operates in Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Prior to her role as Sales & Marketing Director, McKelvey was Divisional Sales Director from 2001 to 2005 and General Sales Manager from 2000 to 2001. Since 2007, she has also served as an alternate Director to the main Board of the Company. She worked at the Company and its predecessor company, CorpCom, for a combined 11 years, having first joined CorpCom as a Sales Executive in 1997.
